Boone County Historical Society

Since our founding in 1924 we’ve been preserving Boone County’s history for its future generations. We collect, preserve and exhibit historic artifacts, records and artwork of the people of Boone County. The Boone County Historical Society is a non-profit organization that owns and operates its physical presence, the Boone County History & Culture Center. The Center consists of the Walters History Galleries, the Montminy Art Gallery, the Village at Boone Junction, The River-Horse Pavilion and the historic Maplewood House – Columbia’s most beloved 19th-century home.

Twa Museum

The mission of the TWA Museum is to provide information to the public emphasizing the story, history and importance of the major role TWA played in pioneering commercial aviation.  We can provide even more TWA Research history  when we receive the last flying TWA aircraft, a Lockheed Electra 12A Jr.  It arrived June 20th at MKC.

Kansas City Area Historic Trails Association

Our goal is to educate the public to the historical significance of the trails as they traversed through the Greater Kansas City area. The country was developed on this basic form of transportation. Each trail with its own importance; Santa Fe Trail was a trail of commerce. Oregon Trail was a route of emigrants to discover new territory. California Trail went west to find “gold”. Lewis and Clark to find a primary water route that would link the east to the west.

The High Desert Museum

Apex Museum

Founded in 1978 to chronicle & present African American Art, History & Culture, our purpose is to inform & enlighten youth & the broad base public to the many positive achievements and contributions of African Americans. We endeavor to promote intercultural understanding, expand racial & ethnic tolerances, and to encourage positive avenues in Black youth. Our philosophy is that bigotry and prejuidice are fostered by ignorance and that hopelessness and despair felt by many Black youth are fueled by a lack of positive exposure. We use vivid & entertaining mediums to light a spark, to make a difference.

The National Civil Rights Museum, located at the Lorraine Motel, honors and preserves the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We chronicle the American civil rights movement and tell the story of the ongoing struggle for human rights.
